Fundamental British Values
In 2011 the government published the Prevent Strategy which set out the fundamental British values of: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

In 2014 the Department for Education published guidance on promoting British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

At Blackfield Primary School the fundamental British values are deeply embedded into our INSPIRE values. We teach children about the importance of free-speech and standing up for what they believe in. Our Pupil Leadership Team and School Council promote democracy and pupil voice all throughout the year. As well as this, through our RE curriculum and integrated learning units, children also experience and understand different cultures and beliefs, comparing them with their own. This is just a snapshot of how Blackfield promotes the fundamental British values.

Here are a few pictures of when we recently took our some of School Council to the Houses of Parliament to really experience British democracy at it's best!
