French at Blackfield

At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, we want children to develop a love of language learning and curiosity about the wider world.

Through learning French, children develop the confidence to listen, speak, read and write in another language. They learn key vocabulary, grammatical structures and French phonology, gradually building their ability to understand and communicate with increasing independence.

Our curriculum encourages children to recognise patterns and make connections between French and English, while developing strategies that will support them in learning languages in the future.

Learning French is also an opportunity to explore French and French-speaking cultures. We want children to recognise similarities and differences between cultures, broaden their understanding of the world and see themselves as respectful global citizens.
