Geography at Blackfield

At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, we want children to become curious and knowledgeable geographers who understand their place in the world.

Our Geography curriculum begins with children's knowledge and experience of their local area before progressively expanding their understanding to contrasting places, countries and environments across the wider world. Children develop their knowledge of locations, places, human and physical features and the geographical processes that shape our planet.

Fieldwork is an important part of Geography at Blackfield. Children have opportunities to explore their local environment, observe and collect information first-hand, use maps and compasses, and develop the practical geographical skills needed to investigate and understand different places.

As children progress through the school, they learn to make connections and comparisons between places, interpret a range of geographical information and use increasingly precise geographical vocabulary.

We also want children to understand the relationship between people and our planet, developing an appreciation of different cultures and environments and recognising the role we all have in protecting our world for the future.
