Music at Blackfield

At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, we want every child to develop a lifelong love of music and to see themselves as musicians.

Our Music curriculum enables children to explore, create and perform through singing, listening, composing and playing a range of instruments. From their earliest experiences in Nursery, children develop their understanding of sound, rhythm, pulse and pitch before progressively building greater musical knowledge, technical skill, control and confidence.

Children experience a wide range of musical styles, genres and cultures, learning about how music has developed throughout history and the important role it plays in different cultures and communities. They learn to listen carefully, respond to music and use increasingly sophisticated musical vocabulary to express their ideas.

Performance and composition are important parts of Music at Blackfield. Children have opportunities to learn different instruments and to create and perform music both individually and collaboratively, developing their confidence, creativity and self-expression.

Above all, we want children to enjoy making and experiencing music, recognising the positive role it can play in their wellbeing and developing a love of music that extends beyond their time at Blackfield.
