PSHE & RSHE at Blackfield
At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, we want children to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to lead happy, healthy and safe lives.
Our PSHE and RSHE curriculum helps children to understand themselves and others, build positive and respectful relationships, recognise and manage their emotions and develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem. We encourage children to celebrate what makes them unique while developing respect and empathy for people whose families, experiences, cultures, beliefs and opinions may be different from their own.
Through our SCARF curriculum, children progressively learn about relationships, physical and mental health, keeping safe, online safety, healthy lifestyles and growing and changing. They learn how to recognise when something does not feel right, where to seek help and how to make safe and responsible choices. Your progression document explicitly maps this provision against the DfE's statutory Relationships and Health Education requirements.
PSHE is also an important part of our commitment to developing the whole child. Children are given opportunities to discuss, question, debate and reflect on real-life situations, helping them develop their own opinions while listening to and respecting those of others.
Ultimately, we want children to leave Blackfield as confident, caring and responsible young people, equipped with the knowledge and personal skills they need for the next stage of their lives.
