Religious Education at Blackfield

At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, Religious Education helps children to understand religion, belief and different ways of seeing the world, while developing their own ability to think, question and reflect.

Our RE curriculum follows the Hampshire Agreed Syllabus, Living Difference, using a concept-led approach to explore Christianity and other major religious traditions, alongside non-religious worldviews. As children progress through the school, they build their knowledge and encounter increasingly complex concepts and ideas.

Children learn through our RE enquiry model: Communicate, Apply, Enquire, Contextualise and Evaluate. This encourages children to begin with their own experiences, ask questions, investigate beliefs and practices, consider different perspectives and reflect upon what they have learned.

We want children to become curious, thoughtful and respectful learners. They are encouraged to express their own views, listen carefully to others and recognise that people may hold beliefs, values and perspectives different from their own.

Through RE, children also explore important moral and ethical questions, developing empathy, respect and an appreciation of diversity. Ultimately, we want them to leave Blackfield confident in exploring life's bigger questions and able to engage respectfully with the diverse world around them.
