Music & Performance

At Blackfield Primary and Nursery School, we want children to have opportunities to perform, create, build confidence and discover their talents.

Music and performance form an important part of our wider enrichment offer. Throughout their time at Blackfield, children have opportunities to sing, dance, act, play instruments and perform to different audiences, whether as part of a whole year-group production, through one of our clubs or by choosing to develop their own musical talents.

We believe performing gives children much more than the opportunity to showcase what they can do. It develops confidence, creativity, teamwork and self-expression, while creating some fantastic memories along the way.

Music at Blackfield

Alongside the music children experience through our curriculum, pupils have opportunities to develop their musical interests further.

Children can choose to learn an additional instrument with our music specialist, Mr McGregor, and those attending our Rock Band Club have the opportunity to come together to form our very own school rock band – The Rock Monsters.

The band gives children the experience of rehearsing and performing together, developing both their musical skills and the confidence that comes from performing as part of a group.

Dance & Performance

Children who enjoy dance can take part in our Dance Club, developing their skills and working together towards a performance at an annual dance show hosted at our local secondary school.

This gives children the exciting experience of rehearsing for a performance and taking their work beyond Blackfield to perform on a larger stage in front of an audience.

Productions & Performances

Performing is woven throughout children's time at Blackfield, with opportunities beginning in the Early Years and continuing right through to the end of Year 6.

Reception Nativity
One of children's first opportunities to perform together for their families as part of our Christmas celebrations.

Year 1 Bee Musical
Our Year 1 children take to the stage for their own musical production, combining acting, singing and performance.

Christmas Performances
Children have opportunities to share music and performances with families, volunteers and guests as part of our Christmas celebrations.

Year 6 Production
At the end of their time at Blackfield, our Year 6 children come together for a full production, giving them the opportunity to act, sing, perform and celebrate their final year at primary school.

Blackfield's Got Talent

One of the highlights of our school year is our annual Blackfield's Got Talent competition.

The competition gives children the opportunity to showcase whatever their talent might be. Whether performing music, singing, dancing, entertaining an audience or demonstrating a completely different skill, we want children to have the confidence to step forward and celebrate something they are proud of.

Blackfield's Got Talent is about much more than finding a winner – it is a celebration of the individual talents, confidence and creativity of our children.
